Bleomycin D1 selective antibiotic, sterile solution (100 mg/mL) is a filtered and sterilized antibiotic solution that can be directly used for cell culture. Bleomycin D1 selective antibiotic is derived from Streptomyces verticillus, a member of the bleomycin family. It is an alkaline, water-soluble, copper chelated glycopeptide antibiotic that is toxic to bacteria, fungi, plants, and mammalian cells.
The Sh ble gene, derived from Streptococcus hindustanus, encodes a 14 kDa protein that selectively binds to Bleomycin D1 and prevents it from binding to cellular DNA, thereby making cells resistant to Bleomycin D1. Therefore, Bleomycin D1 selective antibiotics can be used to screen/maintain stable transfected cell lines carrying the Sh ble gene in culture.
