Chlorin e6 (Ce6) is a photosensitizer. It is active against S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, E. coli, and S. typhimurium when used at a concentration of 20 µM in combination with photodynamic therapy (PDT). Ce6 (5 and 10 mg/kg) induces tumor regression when combined with PDT in several sarcoma rat xenograft models.
Chlorin e6 is a photosensitizer and has strong absorption peaks at wavelength of 402 and 662 nm, as well as exhibiting intense fluorescence at 668 nm. Chlorin e6 has antimicrobial efficacy and anticancer activity. Chlorin e6 induces cell apoptosis via caspase-3 activation and can be used for the research of cancer.

Chlorone6 (100 μg/mL, 24 h) showed no toxicity to HT-29 cells under 635 nm laser irradiation.
Chlorin e6 (5-10 μM, 3 h) induces apoptosis of pancreatic cancer cells by activating caspase-3 under 660 nm near-infrared laser irradiation, thereby inhibiting tumor growth of AsPC-1 and MIA PaCa-2 cells.
